Message from our patron

Photography today is a different world about which I know nothing, so here comes only what may be worth telling you.

I have never attempted to be employed, always worked on my own, have been paid for seeing most of Australia, and been on assignment in eleven countries overseas as well.

Many of you may nowadays never experience the the miracle of an image you have taken appearing in a developing dish, nor the wonderful shock when you then realise that you have created something special, although I occasionally had that feeling already when taking the photograph.

I have loved the freedom photography has given me but had enough sense to stop
soon after taking a photograph so dramatic that I did not believe I could ever do something as good again.

WITH ALL MY GOOD WISHES FOR THIS FIRST GREAT BIENNALE

Photography is a universal art form - just about everybody has a camera. Photography is unique as an art form in that it requires no special craft skills other than a good eye, yet it can also be incredibly complex and technical. Hepburn Shire celebrates the photographic art form in all its diversity with the month long inaugural Daylesford Foto Biennale from June 3rd to July 3rd 2005. The Biennale will be an open forum for the promotion and discussion of all things photographic - a visual feast of high critical acclaim and broad public appeal.
